Textbook Resolution

WHEREAS, Student Government is the representative body for all Kennesaw State University students, and

WHEREAS, members of the said body have recognized the initiative by the Georgia legislature to provide exemptions from state sales and use tax with respect to textbooks, and

WHEREAS, members of said body are aware of the support of the student population for this initiative, and

WHEREAS, members of said body are aware of the student population's increased hardship due to the rising cost of tuition, fees, textbooks, and reduction in Hope Scholarship benefits;

THEREFORE be it known that this body is resolved to support the desires of the students of Kennesaw State University through the following action:

The Kennesaw State University Student Government will send representation to show support of House Bill 141 which relates to exemptions from state sales and use tax, so as to provide for an exemption with respect to textbooks.

PPM Meeting Resolution

Whereas Student Government is the representative body for all Kennesaw State University Students, and

Whereas the current Policies and Procedures Manual (PPM) allows for four (4) unexcused absences without dismissal from Student Government (SG), and

Whereas there is a maximum of 15 General Session and/or
Committee of the Whole, and Executive Meetings during one semester, and

Whereas the responsibilities of SG Senators, Secretaries, and Executives cannot be fully executed without attending all meetings;

Therefore be it known that this body is resolved to support the
needs of the students of Kennesaw State University through the following action:

The SG PPM should be changed to read as follows:


B. SG members with two (2) unexcused absences from said meetings in one stipend period shall be removed from office.

Clarification:

This is a change to Article III Section B of the Student Government Policies and Procedure Manual.

Constitution Resolution

At the 01/11/2007 meeting Student Government passed the following change to the Constitution and PPM with a 11-1-2 vote.

Whereas, Student Government is the representative body for all Kennesaw State University Students, and

Whereas, the University has grown at such a fast pace, that Student Government has a need to create more positions to better represent the student life, and

Whereas, the recent growth of the Greek Life, Registered Student Organizations and freshmen undergraduates has prompted Student Government to fill this gap in representation.

Therefore be it know that his body is resolved to support the needs of the students of Kennesaw State University through the following action:

The creation of a new Senator of Greek Life, who shall be a member of a Greek organization registered with the Student Life Office, the creation of a new Registered Student Organization Senator, who shall be a member of a Registered Student Organization and an additional four new Freshman Senators, who shall follow the guidelines already set forth in the Constitution and PPM.

These changes are still pending SABAC approval.

Campus Green Resolution

Whereas Student Government is the representative body for all Kennesaw State University students, and

Whereas members of the said body collected 110 survey’s on the campus green, at the student center, and in the science building, and

Whereas Kennesaw State University is currently in need of more intramural space, and

Whereas the results from the surveys show that the majority of Kennesaw State University students are opposed to turning the campus green into an intramural field, and

Therefore be it known that this body is resolved to support the desires of the students of Kennesaw State University through the following action:

The campus green to remain in its current state with the option to use it for recreational, relaxation, and studying purposes at anytime.



Place Properties Technology Resolution

Whereas Student Government is the representative body for all Kennesaw State University students, and

Whereas members of the said body collected 650 signatures for a petition at KSU Place, University Place and University Village, and

Whereas the current PlaceNet service does not meet the needs of student residents for academic and recreational purposes, and

Whereas the connection speed for the 700 residents of University Place is at 9MB/sec which compares to a residential connection (equivalent to a family of four) offered by telecommunication companies, and

Whereas every student resident was given an official document from Place Properties states that residents can use their own wireless router or access points; while at the same time the outdated PlaceNet agreement prohibits some use of wired and wireless network technology, and

Whereas at the Spring 2006 town hall meeting concerns were expressed to Place Properties Regional Manager Donna Passow, the KSU Foundation representative Bob Heflin and the Director of Residence Life Michael Sanseviro, and

Whereas complaints by student residents have largely gone without action by the KSU Foundation, Residence Life, and Place Properties;

Therefore be it known that this body is resolved to support the needs of the students of Kennesaw State University through the following action:

An upgraded PlaceNet service at University Place, KSU Place and the University Village should be implemented immediately. This upgrade should include, but not limited to, faster network connection, ability to use SMTP to send email, and the ability to use personal wireless access points or routers as described in the current PlaceNet agreement and document distributed to students during move-in.

This resolution passed unanimously



October 5, 2006

Tennis Resolution

Whereas Student Government is the representative body for all Kennesaw State University students, and

Whereas the administration of said university has rightly placed such tremendous priority on the physical and mental well being of the student body that it has caused a Health and Physical Fitness class to be requisite of graduation, and

Whereas the student body recognizes the need for fitness facilities and feels they provide a valuable asset to student health and student life, and

Whereas the tennis complex at said university is in disastrous disrepair and could be unsafe for recreational or competitive use, and

Whereas the said university uses the tennis complex for academic classes, intramural sports, Continuing Education, NCAA Women’s Tennis and there are plans to create a Men’s Tennis team in 2008;

Therefore be it known that this body is resolved to support the needs of the students of Kennesaw State University through the following action:

A new or repaired tennis complex should be constructed as soon as possible with a percentage of the cost, using minimal or no student fees, to construct said facility to benefit the KSU community in physical education, intercollegiate sports, and extracurricular activities.

Reward Resolution

Whereas Student Government is the representative body for all Kennesaw State University students, and

Whereas liberty and freedom from fear are among the most fundamental of human rights which ought to be protected on our campus, and

Whereas recent crimes and attempted crimes upon our campus have threatened those rights and shattered the peace of mind of our community.

Therefore be it known that this body is resolved to support the needs of the students of Kennesaw State University through the following action:

A standing reward of one hundred dollars shall be issued to any person who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of perpetrators of any violent crimes committed against the students, faculty, or staff of Kennesaw State University upon the grounds of this campus.



"The Fallen Owls" Resolution

Whereas Student Government is the representative body for all Kennesaw State University students, and

Whereas Student Government has undertaken an initiative to erect a memorial to recognize the names of students, faculty, and staff who have died while enrolled or employed at Kennesaw State University, and

Whereas this memorial will serve as a focal point for an annual ceremony to venerate the individuals that have suffered untimely deaths, and

Whereas the support from this body for this memorial will influence the implementation of this project,

Therefore be it resolved that the student government of Kennesaw State University supports the following action:

The construction of a stone memorial entitled “The Fallen Owls” to be located in fro not Kennesaw Hall with an attached plaque bearing the names of those who have passed.
